What is a Remedial Massage Therapy?
Remedial Massage is a treatment modality that manipulates the soft tissues of the body including movement for a specific therapeutic effect as opposed to generalised treatment e.g. relaxation massage. It uses relevant techniques, and movements according to the client's needs and response. This leads to the healing process, which begins at the cellular level aiding soft tissues in repairing, restoring functional integrity and adapting back to health. Remedial Massage is best suited for patients who have injured their muscles, ligaments, tendons and other soft tissues.
Injuries that respond well to Remedial Massage include overuse injuries including tendonitis, muscle tension and widespread pain conditions e.g. fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome. Headaches, back pain, neck tension, whiplash, lower back pain, tendonitis, and general muscle tension would also benefit from Remedial treatment. The treatment would normally focus on the presenting injury/dysfunction as opposed to working on the body as a whole.
